Trade transfers

Overview of supported kinds of trade transfers.

Cross-account trade transfers

Cross-account position transfers are supported when they are present in flex reports. When transfer is detected the outstanding position in the given security is moved from one account to another.

INFO

Note that for historic reasons same account(s) transfers across different branches of Interactive Brokers are inferred automatically. The summary of these actions is displayed in the program output for each account ledger.

Cross-brokerage trade transfers

Flex reports don't include the original purchases of positions you moved to Interactive Brokers from another broker. Without them, the app can't calculate gains when you sell. Add those purchases as trade transfers.

Import your flex reports before adding trade transfers. The app looks up the security's ISIN, IB contract ID and account there, so you only need to enter the date, symbol, quantity, price and currency.

Add a stock trade transfer using CLI

This example adds 100 shares of AAPL bought on Nov 29, 2019 at $267.25:

sh
portfelj trade-transfers add --asset-category stk \
  --date 2019-11-29 \
  --symbol AAPL \
  --quantity 100 \
  --trade-price 267.25 \
  --currency USD

If more than one security matches, you'll be asked to pick one. If the app can't find the ISIN or account, pass them with --isin and --account-id.

List trade transfers

sh
portfelj trade-transfers list

Each entry is shown with its number, for example [ENTRY 0].

Remove a trade transfer

Use the entry number from list. This example removes [ENTRY 1]:

sh
portfelj trade-transfers remove --entry 1
